About Us
Our association was established in 2014, in Timisoara, by Erdei Lajos Árpád, president and Benedek Áron, vicepresident.
The association has two main fields of activity: preserving the traditions and sport activities.
1.The first field of activity, preserving the traditions, is about keeping the Hungarian language alive, and about organizing different activities within the Hungarian community. We can divide these activities according to two great historical periods:
The first period is represented by the arrival of Arpad at the end of the IXth century, somewhere between 860 and 890 c. e. To make this period known to the public, the association has a yurt (a nomad tent) which dates back to the above mentioned historical period. The yurt is a primary attraction for the public during historical and cultural festivals in Romania and abroad.
The second historical period brought to life is represented by the middle of the XVI th century, more precise two years in the history of Timisoara: 1551 and 1552. During this two-year period, the armies of the Ottoman Empire attacked and eventually conquered the fortress on the Bega river. The scene brought to life by the members of the association depicts the moment when the commander of the fortress, Losonczy Istvan, managed to halt the furious attacks of the ottoman janissaries and sipahis, during the final siege from 1552.
2. The second field of activity is represented by a series of ancient Hungarian martial arts, named baranta. This sports field is for children and grown-ups alike, combining the history of the Hungarians, dancing, and the use of different traditional weapons.
